New school year getting closer - pupils return to transformed schools

In just a short while, the first bell will sound throughout Poland and pupils and teachers will begin a new school year. As is the case every year, the summer holidays have been a time of refurbishment and modernisation in many establishments - classrooms, corridors and playing fields have been prepared so that pupils can return to even better conditions for learning and developing their passions.

One element of change in schools and kindergartens is green initiatives. For many years SEGRO Poland actively supports local communities by installing in schools, community centres and sports facilities non-contact drinking water fountains. This solution is not only intended to encourage children and young people to drink water and develop healthy habits, but also to reduce the use of plastic bottles and support environmental care.

Water instead of plastic

To date, five Polish cities have already installed the 156 water springswhich are used by more than 55,000 schoolchildren and young athletes. This reduces plastic consumption by 218 tonnes per yearemissions, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions.

In the past school year, more such devices appeared, among others, in the municipality of Stryków - in kindergartens, primary schools, day care centres, community centres and sports facilities, as many as 11 new distributors. This is the next stage of SEGRO's cooperation with the local municipality. Earlier, in April, the company's employees together with customers of SEGRO Logistics Park Stryków planted plants at the nearby lagoon, enriching the recreational space of the local residents.

Working together for health and the planet

SEGRO's initiatives are part of a programme of Responsible SEGROwhich focuses on investing in local communities and the environment. Educational events are regularly organised, such as the World Water Day event in Plewiska, where pupils from the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Primary School No. 2 were able to learn more about the importance of water in their daily lives and use two dispensers installed there.

SEGRO also supports nationwide environmental projects - for four years the company was an official partner of the action Operation Clean River. In 2024 alone, employees managed to collect 3.5 tonnes of waste in Warsaw, Poznan and Gliwice, and a total of as much as 7.5 tonnes over the life of the project.

Education and ecology go hand in hand

Through such initiatives, children and young people learn that caring for health and the environment can be a daily habit. Using water sources is a simple gesture that makes a real difference in reducing plastic waste.

The new school year is not only a return to learning, but also an opportunity to make a positive difference. Projects delivered by SEGRO and local authorities show that investment in education can go hand in hand with care for the planet - and every drop matters. 🌍💧
