Bail system in Poland from October - what is worth knowing and what are the alternatives?

From October, the following will be in force in Poland bail system. This means that when we buy beverages in plastic bottles, glass containers or cans, we will pay an additional deposit, which we will only get back if we return the empty packaging to the relevant point.

What does it consist of?

  • A deposit will be added to the price of the drink (a few tens of pennies per pack).
  • In order to recover the money, you will need to return the bottle or can intact - It must not be crushed or damaged.
  • Refunds will be possible at special vending machines or in selected shops that join the scheme.

Possible effects on consumers

  • Higher drink prices - Initially we will all feel this, especially when buying bottled water or canned drinks.
  • Need to collect and store empty bottleswhich can be cumbersome in small flats.
  • Time-consuming returns - Not every shop will accept packaging, and vending machines may not be available in every location.

Although the deposit system aims to improve recycling and reduce waste, many consumers may find it cumbersome and expensive.

An ecological and convenient alternative - water dispensers

Instead of buying water in disposable bottles, you can rely on an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution - water dispensers. This is an increasingly popular solution in:

  • homes - Instead of buying a packet, we fill up our bottle or glass in the kitchen,
  • schools and kindergartens - children use their own water bottles, always having access to fresh water,
  • offices and authorities - Workers drink freely, without producing additional rubbish,
  • workplaces - convenience and economy for employers and employees.

The distributors are:

  • ecology - less plastic and waste,
  • saving - no additional deposit costs,
  • convenience - no need to search for bottle dispensers, store empty bottles or remember to return them.

The deposit system is an important step towards a circular economy, but for many people it can be cumbersome. Therefore, it is already worth considering switching to water dispensers - a solution that is environmentally friendly, cheaper in the long term and much more practical in everyday life.
